Georgia: Solidarity with striking Borjomi workers

In partnership with the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tourism, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations (IUF) and Trade Union of Georgian Employees in Agriculture, Trade and Industry..

Workers at two IDS Borjomi mineral water plants in Borjomi, Georgia, began striking with overwhelming majority support on 31 May 2022 to protest the termination of 50 workers including the union's leader Tsotne Kiknadze, precarious work, wage cuts, and the company's theft of union dues.
Despite management's efforts to intimidate, threaten and blackmail the workers, they are determined to strike until their rights are restored with pickets being held outside the two striking plants. Approximately 400 workers are demanding: the reinstatement of all terminated workers including the union's leader; a new collective bargaining agreement which guarantees permanent work; payment of dues owed to the union; the dismissal of managers flagrantly violating workers' rights; and a pay raise. While on 13 June, the Prime Minister of Georgia ordered the Ministers of Economy and Labour to organise and facilitate negotiations between the workers and the employer, we need to keep up the pressure on the government to make sure the strikers' demands are met. Watch the video, and please send a message a message to the Government of Georgia that workers’ rights must be respected now.
