Turkey: CP Chicken workers fight back against wage cut

In partnership with the Union of Food Industry Workers of Turkey (Gıda-iş) .

The Union of Food Industry Workers of Turkey has organized workers at the CP Chicken factories since 2014. Earlier this year, the company fired more than 300 workers. Those workers had individual employment contracts that included 12 months' salary plus four bonus months. But after the Turkish government increased the minimum wage, the company forced workers to sign new agreements without the bonus pay, claiming they had become too expensive. The workers who didn't accept the new terms, 90% of whom were union members, were fired. The union organized protests at the factory gates, and demanded an end to the unjust dismissals. Those protests continued for many weeks and now the union is continuing the struggle in the Labour Court and continues to organize workers at the company.
