Guatemala: Stop persecution of union leader Lesbia Xiomara Conde Pacheco

In partnership with Public Services International, the global union federation for workers in public services.

Our colleague Lesbia Xiomara Conde Pacheco, General Secretary of the National Union of Legislative Workers (STOL), is the victim of serious union persecution. Through a court ruling, the Board of Directors of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala was authorized to proceed with her dismissal, despite her having been legitimately elected.
This act constitutes a severe attack on trade union freedom and direct retaliation for her work in defense of workers. It violates international law, contravening ILO Conventions 87 and 98, both ratified by Guatemala. This resolution is not an isolated incident, but rather a historical reproduction of the Guatemalan State's systematic persecution and harassment of the trade union movement and, specifically, of the STOL.
