Serbia: Air traffic controllers union leaders sacked after strike
![]() | In partnership with the European Transport Workers' Federation, which represents more than 5 million transport workers from more than 200 transport unions in 38 European countries. |
Two leaders of the Sindikat kontrole letenja (SKL), the union representing Serbian air traffic controllers, have been dismissed after their security clearances were revoked based on a vague "negative opinion from the security services." Both played key roles in this year’s lawful and successful strike. Reports that this action may have been initiated by members of the ruling party raise serious concerns of political interference and retaliation against trade union representatives, threatening fundamental rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining. The ETF and ETUC have called on President Aleksandar Vučić to ensure Serbia upholds its legal and international obligations and to end all interference targeting union leaders. We invite you to support this call by writing to SMATSA’s CEO, requesting the immediate reinstatement of the two dismissed SKL leaders.
